Remove Background
Remove a background automatically with an on-device AI model, or erase it by hand with a magic-wand and colour-key tool — both run entirely in your browser.
Remove Background
This tool runs entirely in your browser. Your files never leave your device.
How to use
- 1Drop an image onto the box or choose a file — it opens in the editor.
- 2Pick 'Automatic Remove' for a one-click AI cutout, or 'Manual Remove' to erase by hand.
- 3Automatic: click 'Remove background automatically' and wait for the model to run.
- 4Manual: choose 'Magic wand' or 'Colour key', set the tolerance, then click the background areas to erase — Undo if a click takes too much.
- 5Check the transparent-PNG result, then download.
About this tool
This tool offers two ways to remove a background, both running entirely in your browser with the image never uploaded anywhere. Automatic Remove uses an on-device AI segmentation model (downloaded once to your browser, then cached) to detect the main subject and cut out the background for you — a good starting point for photos with a clear foreground subject, including tricky edges like hair. Manual Remove is a click-to-erase eraser: you click the parts of the image you want to remove, and the tool makes matching pixels transparent — either the connected region under your click (magic wand) or every pixel of that colour anywhere in the image (colour key), with adjustable tolerance, edge softening and undo. It works well for solid or simple backgrounds and gives you exact control the automatic mode doesn't. Both modes download as a PNG with a real transparent alpha channel. You can then place the cutout on a white, black, custom-color, or blurred-original background before downloading.
Benefits & use cases
- One-click AI background removal that runs on your device — nothing is uploaded.
- Switch to manual mode for exact, click-by-click control on tricky images.
- Get a transparent PNG for product photos, portraits, logos and graphics.
- No account, no server, no limits on how many images you process.
Frequently asked questions
Is this automatic AI background removal?
Automatic mode, yes — it runs an on-device AI segmentation model in your browser, no server involved. Manual mode is a separate click-to-erase eraser for when you want exact control instead.
Does automatic removal upload my photo anywhere?
No. The AI model runs fully in your browser. The only network request is a one-time download of the generic model files themselves (not your image), cached after first use.
Will manual mode work on hair, fur or blurry edges?
Not well — that needs per-pixel transparency that manual colour selection can't produce cleanly. Try Automatic mode for those images instead.
Is the transparency real in the download?
Yes. The file is a PNG with a genuine alpha channel, so erased areas are fully transparent in other software.
Are my images uploaded?
No, in either mode. Everything runs in your browser. Large images are scaled down for smooth processing.
