About this tool
The Image Compressor re-encodes a photo at a lower quality to make the file smaller, which is ideal for websites, email and uploads. Drag the quality slider to trade a little visual detail for a much smaller file, compare the before and after sizes, and optionally scale the image down at the same time. Compression is done with the Canvas API in your browser, so the picture is never uploaded. JPG and WebP compress well; PNG does not, so the tool suggests switching format when needed.

Frequently asked questions
Is the image sent anywhere?
No. The image is compressed on your device with the Canvas API and is never uploaded.
What quality should I choose?
Between 60% and 80% usually looks fine and greatly reduces the size. Lower values save more but show more artefacts.
Why didn't my PNG get smaller?
Canvas PNG output is lossless, so it barely shrinks. Convert to JPG or WebP for a real reduction, especially for photos.
Does compressing again and again keep helping?
No. Re-compressing an already compressed image mostly just degrades quality. Start from the original when you can.
