Convert PNG images to smaller JPG files, with a background colour for transparency.
PNG to JPG
This tool runs entirely in your browser. Your files never leave your device.
How to use
- 1Drop a PNG onto the box or choose a file.
- 2Pick a background colour for any transparent areas.
- 3Set the JPG quality — around 90% keeps it looking clean.
- 4Click 'Convert image', compare the result and its size, then download.
About this tool
This converter saves a PNG image as a JPG (JPEG). JPG files are much smaller than PNG for photographs, which makes them better for email, uploads and web pages. Because JPG has no transparency, any transparent areas in the PNG are filled with a background colour that you choose — white by default. Everything is done with the Canvas API in your browser, so the image is never uploaded, and you can set the JPG quality to balance size against detail.
Benefits & use cases
- Make large PNG photos small enough to attach or upload.
- Reduce page weight when a transparent background isn't needed.
- Produce a JPG for services that only accept that format.
- Control exactly what shows behind previously transparent pixels.
Frequently asked questions
What happens to transparent parts of my PNG?
JPG can't store transparency, so transparent pixels are filled with the background colour you pick before the file is saved.
Is the image sent to a server?
No. The conversion runs in your browser with the Canvas API and nothing is uploaded.
What quality should I use?
80-92% is a good range: clearly smaller than PNG with little visible difference. Lower values save more but add artefacts.
Will text and sharp lines still look crisp?
JPG can blur hard edges slightly. For screenshots and graphics with text, PNG or WebP usually looks better.
