About this tool
Compress PDF offers two honest options rather than one magic button. 'Quick re-save' rewrites the file's internal structure more compactly without touching its content — it is lossless and keeps text selectable, but the size reduction is often small and depends on how the original PDF was produced. 'Rasterize & compress' re-renders every page as a JPEG at a resolution and quality you choose and rebuilds the PDF from those images; this can produce much bigger savings, especially for scanned documents or PDFs full of photos, at the cost of turning any text into part of an image (no longer selectable, copyable or searchable). Both modes run in your browser — nothing is uploaded, and no external compression service is used.

Frequently asked questions
Which mode should I use?
Try 'Quick re-save' first if you need the text to stay selectable. If the PDF is mostly scanned pages or photos and still too large, use 'Rasterize & compress'.
Will rasterizing make my PDF blurry?
At 150 DPI or higher with a reasonable quality, most documents stay sharp enough to read comfortably. Lower DPI trades sharpness for a smaller file.
Does rasterizing keep the text searchable?
No. Once a page is turned into an image, its text can no longer be selected, copied or searched. Use 'Quick re-save' if that matters to you.
Is my document uploaded to compress it?
No. Both modes run entirely in your browser; the file is never sent to a server.
