About this tool
The Character Counter reports the exact number of characters in your text, both including and excluding whitespace, along with word count, line count and the size of the text in UTF-8 bytes. It counts by Unicode code points, so accented letters and emoji are handled correctly.

Does it count spaces and line breaks?
The main figure includes all whitespace. A separate figure shows the count with whitespace removed.
Why is the byte count higher than the character count?
Characters outside basic Latin (accents, emoji, other scripts) take two to four bytes each in UTF-8.
